CCTV cameras deployed in Lagos

 

Over 900 closed-circuit television, CCTV, cameras have been deployed in Lagos State and already supplying video footages to relevant agencies, State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje, has said.

Mabadeje, at a briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, said that the current deployment of the CCTV by the Federal Government was not in conflict with the earlier efforts by the state government.
 

According to him, the state would soon embark on the pilot resident registration exercise, which would enable the government to collect, collate and manage a database of all residents.
 

He noted that the state government had advertised and called for the expression of interest by private investors with requisite expertise and funding for “a world-class’’ forensic laboratory under a Public-Private Partnership in which the government will provide land in Badagry.

Mabadeje stressed that the state government expects to receive inputs from the Federal Government and security agencies in executing the project, which he claimed would save the state hard-earned foreign exchange expended in carrying out forensic investigations and studies on crime and health-related matters overseas.

Explosion and Gunshots in Buhari’s Hometown of Daura

 

Explosion and sporadic gunshots rocked the quiet town of Daura, Katsina state, home town of opposition leader, Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday night.
 

The attack started at about 10 p.m. and was still ongoing one hour later. Witnesses said the attackers brought down police station and robbed banks and homes. Some residents said the attack started around Daura Motel in the city centre before the attackers moved against banks and a police station. Another witness said the attackers freed detainees at the police station in the town and then threw explosions at the station and prison.
 

It is unclear if the attackers are members of the extremist Boko Haram sect that has been terrorizing northern Nigeria since 2009. The attack comes barely 48 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in three northern states — Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
 

Katsina, also home to late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, under whose watch the Boko Haram sect transformed to a terror organization, has managed to remain insulated from the security crises in northern Nigeria.
 

The police in Katsina were unreachable for comments Thursday night.

Kelly Rowland: I Was 'Enraged' By Beyonce's Fame

Kelly Rowland has finally copped to what many fans suspected, admitting that she was envious of Destiny's Child member Beyonce's solo success after their girl group had disbanded. 

In Rowland's new song, aptly titled "Dirty Laundry," she croons about her inner struggle to be happy for her childhood friend, singing:

The 32-year-old also reveals she was in an abusive relationship at the time, which caused her to spiral into depression and hindered her chances of making it big as a solo singer.

"He pulled me out and said 'Don’t nobody love you but me / Not your mama / Not your daddy / and especially not Bey," Rowland sings about her ex, adding that she was "lucky" to be in the "Crazy In Love" songstress' shadow during this rough patch.

Given that Bey still welcomed her with open arms during their Destiny's Child reunion at this year's Super Bowl, it's safe to say that their friendship remains untarnished.

David Beckham Is Retiring From Soccer

Global superstar David Beckham will retire from professional soccer (or football, depending on where you live) at the end of the season, BBC News reported Thursday.

 

"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," he said.

He added:

Nothing will ever completely replace playing the game I love. However, I feel like I'm starting a new adventure and I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead. I'm fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it's my time to give back

The move will bring to a close a wildly successful career that has spanned nearly two decades and four countries, including that time he moved to Los Angeles and tried to make soccer happen here in America (It didn't work).

But hey, at least his career will end on a high note. Not only did he donate his entire salary from Paris St-Germain to charity, he also helped the team win France's first title in 19 years. 

Beckham joined Manchester United in 1996 at the young age of 14. From there, he would go on to become arguably the most recognizable (and best-looking) face in the sport. He was even responsible for making Keira Knightely a star.

Off the field, Beckham was also known for marrying a Spice Girl and always dressing better than us.

Beckham's career wraps Sunday, May 26 at Lorient.

Hackers stole $45 million in ATM card breach

NEW YORK — They didn't use guns, masks or even threatening notes passed to bank tellers.

But an alleged international gang of cyberthieves managed to steal $45 million from thousands of ATMs in carefully coordinated attacks conducted in a matter of hours, federal authorities charged Thursday.

A four-count indictment unsealed in Brooklyn charged that eight members of the alleged gang's New York City crew alone stole approximately $2.4 million from nearly 3,000 ATMs across the metropolitan area in secret strikes carried out on two days in February.
